I read this http://old.nabble.com/Re%3A-A-Windows-7-smart-phone-is-here!-p30676635.html
I don't believe it. Is this person correct?
i've heard this from a lot of people too.
i think you can
If so one of my pet wishes and thoughts about the Windows 7 phones has come true, and I'll be buying mine soon. I Phone lovers eat my dust! Lol
If so how. I would like to have someone try to do this before I go get a windos phone. I have the iphone and hate it. I had the other phones that support mobile speak and talks and did not like them either. If this works I would get one in a heart beat.
i honestly don't see it working myself, no matter what microsoft and other people claim. phones don't really have the processor or ram to handle stuff like that, and if it did it'd be a snail. to give you a clue, even running say windows xp on a 1.5 ghz single core processor with 512 megs of ram, it lagged with jaws. now unless phones have magically gotten to support upwards of 2 or more gigs of ram, and have at least 2.0 ghz processors, it'll be very very slow. especially with win 7 which really needs 2 gigs of ram to be workable.
hmm.. the best specs that I have seen have been a 1.5 dule cor processor and a gig of ram. Maybe their is a phone that has more if so I stand corrected.
I hightoy doubt it. Windows Phone 7 is a totally different O.S. from Windows 7, and Jaws relies on specifics of Windows, namely the so-called "Ghost display drivers" that Microsoft left in, only for the benefit of Assistive Technology. I simply don't see that happen in a totally different O.S.
Besides the mobile applications on Windows 7 do not support UIA or MSAA (UIA may be, but I doubt it), and Jaws relies on a full keyboard, using keys like capslock and the insert key as specific Jaws keys, and I don't see how that would work, unless you had an external bluetooth keyboard.
Windows 7 phones are expensive and a tiny minority on the market, most people epect them to fail again.
What the future holds, I believe, will be an operating system that will run on phones or PCs, may be Windows 8 alrady will, I know it was the ai. And then we might be talking a screen reader for Windows that can run even on a portable device.
So, no, I just can't see this being possible. Even if it were, as has been pointed out, it'd be slow and at lesat as "inaccessible" as Apple, probably much much much worse. I find Apple quite accessible myself and have no complaints about my iPhone, except the one button that should be added for placing and hanging up phone and skype calls, and lack of accessible productivity apps like spreadsheets and such.
Rat, I agree with you that is why I don’t believe it.
wildebrew, I hope that operating system comes out soon. I don’t have problems hanging up calls. All I do is go to the bottom of the screen and flick until I hear end call and double tap. What I can’t stand on the iphone and the imac is using safari. That is why I don’t like the iphone. I love Microsoft internet explorer or firefox.
can you not stand it, or have you not adapted.
Both. I can't read web pages right with voiceover. With Jaws all I have to do is use the arrow keys to read. With Voice Over when I read the web page I miss a lot of things. And sometimes I can't find what I want on a web page even when I know it's there. I don't have a bluetooth keyboard for my iphone because I want something small and have not found the right keyboard for me. I bought one once the size of the iphone but it kept diing and I kept getting it replaced but gave up on that keyboard.
